Gillian.
Creative Director at our Lothian Road salon, Gillian more than made her mark at Cheynes. Known for her signature bouncy blow-dries, hair extensions and precision bobs, her style is equal parts timeless and edgy. Whether she’s crafting glossy colour or perfecting a polished cut, Gillian brings her passion and creativity to every appointment.
She’s got a soft spot for 90s fashion icons (think Jennifer Aniston and SJP), and a dream styling date with Audrey Hepburn (because, of course — iconic).
Outside the salon, you’ll likely find her with an iced latte in hand, strolling through Dean Village or sharing a cheese board at Pickles. But in the salon? She’s all about making her clients feel their absolute best — and turning their best hair days into reality.

What inspired you to follow a career in the industry?
The ability to always be learning new things — no two days are ever the same, and it’s never boring. I love that I get to be as creative as I want to be and constantly push myself to grow.
How would you describe your personal style as a hairdresser?
I can keep it classic, but I’m not afraid to add a bit of edge. I love mixing timeless styles with a modern twist.
If you could style the hair of any celebrity, past or present, who would it be?
Audrey Hepburn — there are just too many iconic styles. Experimenting with those looks would be a dream.
What’s your go-to product or tool you can’t live without?
Colour Wow Xtra Large Bombshell Foam
Sebastian Dark Oil
Wella Perfect Setting

What do you enjoy most about working with clients at your Cheynes salon?
That feeling when you’ve made their vision a reality, it’s so rewarding. There’s nothing better than seeing someone leave feeling confident and happy.
Who are your style icons or sources of creative inspiration?
I love anything 90s fashion! Jennifer Aniston, The Devil Wears Prada, Alicia Silverstone, and Sarah Jessica Parker are all huge inspirations.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Cheynes?
How much it feels like a family. There’s always support, always encouragement, and so many opportunities to grow.
Describe your perfect day off in Edinburgh.
I’d start with an iced latte and a walk through Dean Village or the Meadows. I love going to Pickles on Broughton Street for meat, cheese, and wine. And of course — you can never go wrong with a bit of shopping.
